Overview

Insect biology is the study of the structure, development, behavior, and evolution of insects. Insects are some of the most diverse and abundant organisms on earth, comprising more than half of all known living species. Their tremendous diversity has an immeasurable economic impact, both positive and negative, on humans. Insects are important pollinators of crops, providing essential ecological services to habitats, and are used widely in medical and scientific research. Furthermore, they help to control pests and offer a variety of resources such as honey and silk. A better understanding of insect biology can help with the development of better pest control strategies, improved crop yields, and better natural resource management.
