Overview
Congenital heart disease (CHD) is any structural abnormality of the heart or major blood vessels that is present at birth. It is among the most common birth defects and ranges from minor conditions that cause few or no symptoms to complex malformations that significantly affect circulation and require specialized care. CHD includes defects such as holes between heart chambers, valve abnormalities, and malformations of the heart's chambers and great vessels, and its management spans diagnosis in infancy through long-term follow-up into adulthood. Research relevant to this journal addresses several facets of congenital heart disease. Reported work includes a study examining whether single daily activity or exercise-capacity measurements predict future changes in cardiovascular risk factors in people with congenital heart disease, a case report of Ebstein's anomaly with right atrial thrombus, and an analysis of factors affecting nutritional status in infants with single-ventricle physiology. Together these studies reflect the clinical breadth of CHD across diagnosis, complications, and ongoing care. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to congenital heart disease.
