Cancer Stem Cells
Cancer stem cells are a subpopulation of cells found in a tumor that have the ability to self-renew and to give rise to the other cell types that make up the tumor. These cells are thought to be responsible for the growth and spread of many forms of cancer, and are the primary target for new cancer treatments. By targeting cancer stem cells, therapies may be more effective at eliminating cancer cells, preventing relapse and causing fewer side effects.
