Overview

Stable coronary artery disease is a chronic form of coronary artery disease in which atherosclerotic plaque narrows the arteries that supply the heart muscle, limiting blood flow in a predictable, controlled pattern. It commonly manifests as stable angina, in which chest discomfort or related symptoms occur with exertion or stress and are relieved by rest or medication, reflecting a mismatch between the heart's oxygen demand and the reduced supply through narrowed vessels. Unlike acute coronary syndromes, the condition is comparatively steady over time, though it carries risk of progression and adverse events. Management focuses on controlling risk factors such as high blood pressure, abnormal lipids, diabetes, and smoking, along with medications and, in selected cases, revascularization procedures. Research in this journal addresses related cardiovascular themes, including comparisons of coronary disease patterns in single- versus multivessel disease, the localization of culprit arteries using electrocardiography in acute presentations, anatomical variations in the coronary arteries, and dynamic changes in coronary circulation that parallel disease progression. Within the scope of Hypertension and Cardiology, stable coronary artery disease is studied in the context of atherosclerosis, ischemia, and the management of cardiovascular risk. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to coronary artery disease, ischemic heart conditions, and their evaluation and management.
