Overview
Quality of life refers to an individual's overall sense of well-being, encompassing physical health, psychological state, social relationships, and the ability to function and participate in daily activities. In health research it is a multidimensional concept measured through standardized instruments and surveys, often as a health-related quality of life that captures how disease, disability, and treatment affect a person's day-to-day living. Assessing quality of life is central to understanding the burden of illness, evaluating the effectiveness of interventions, and guiding patient-centered care, because it reflects outcomes that matter to people beyond clinical measures alone. Research in human health uses these measures across many populations and conditions. Related peer-reviewed work in this collection includes studies on oral health-related quality of life in a Yemeni population, the influence of visual impairment on quality of life, physical and mental fatigue and perceived social support among social workers, quality of life among patients with type 2 diabetes, and health-related quality of life among older persons with non-communicable diseases. This page gathers open-access research relevant to the measurement and determinants of quality of life, supporting study of well-being across diverse health contexts and populations.
