Overview
Medicine is the science and practice of preventing, diagnosing, and treating disease and of preserving health, integrating basic biological understanding with clinical judgement applied to individual patients. It is organised into numerous specialties and draws on physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and anatomy as well as on evolving therapeutic technologies. The research collected here spans that continuum from foundational science to bedside care. The grounding role of the basic sciences in clinical reasoning is addressed directly, and human anatomy is framed as the gateway to medicine and surgery. Clinical and specialty contributions include the management of hypertension through sports and exercise medicine, the treatment of heart failure in family practice, and the assessment of severe paediatric diarrhoea in emergency settings. Forward-looking therapeutic directions appear in work on regenerative medicine and stem-cell therapy, while pharmacological investigation is represented by comparative study of plant-derived and conventional lipid-lowering agents. The collection also engages traditional and integrative approaches, such as the nanomedicinal characterisation of Ayurvedic preparations, alongside methodological reflection on how clinical research in general medicine should be designed. Together these works express medicine's characteristic synthesis of mechanism and management, in which advances in understanding disease processes are continually translated into strategies for diagnosis, treatment, and the improvement of patient outcomes.
