Overview
Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) is a group of cancers that begin in the lymphocytes of the lymphatic system, the network of vessels, nodes, and organs that supports immune function. It encompasses many distinct subtypes, each defined by particular cellular, immunophenotypic, and genetic features, and it can affect people of any age, with incidence rising in later decades of life. Because the lymphatic system reaches throughout the body, NHL may present in lymph nodes or in extranodal sites, and accurate classification through cytology, histopathology, and molecular study guides prognosis and treatment. Research published in Hematology and Oncology Research addresses several facets of this disease. Work on fine-needle aspiration cytology of lymphoid lesions examines how the atypical or suspicious diagnostic category performs and what outcomes follow, while a study of adolescent and adult non-Hodgkin lymphomas in a resource-limited setting reports on subtypes and treatment results. A case report documents lymphoma arising in the uncommon location of the external auditory canal alongside related risk factors, and another describes Lennert (lymphoepithelioid) lymphoma presenting with extensive necrosis. Together these peer-reviewed, open-access articles reflect the journal's focus on the diagnosis, classification, and management of lymphoid malignancies.
