Overview

Lymphoma cells are malignant lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell of the immune system, that proliferate uncontrollably and accumulate to form tumours, typically in lymph nodes but also in the bone marrow, spleen, and other tissues. Lymphomas are broadly divided into Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin types and encompass many subtypes that differ in their cell of origin, behaviour, and response to treatment. Studying the characteristics of lymphoma cells is central to Hematology and Oncology Research, supporting accurate diagnosis, classification, and the development of targeted therapies. The biology and clinical features of lymphoma cells are diverse, ranging from indolent to aggressive disease, and their identification often relies on histopathology, cytology, and molecular markers. The articles indexed here illustrate this range, including case reports of distinct entities such as lymphoepithelioid (Lennert) lymphoma, breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma, and MALT lymphoma, as well as studies of lymphoma in children and in low-income settings. Further work addresses central nervous system involvement during chemotherapy, metabolic targeting in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, lactate dehydrogenase as a marker of disease activity, fine-needle aspiration cytology of lymphoid lesions, and post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder. Together these contributions reflect ongoing efforts to understand, diagnose, and treat the many forms of lymphoma.
