Overview

Laboratory tests are analytic procedures performed on blood, body fluids, tissues, and cells to detect, quantify, and monitor physiological and pathological states. In hematology and oncology they encompass the complete blood count, coagulation assays, immunophenotyping, cytogenetics, molecular diagnostics, and biomarker measurement, enabling diagnosis of blood disorders, staging of malignancy, and surveillance of treatment response. Test selection and interpretation depend on pre-analytical conditions, reference intervals, and the clinical question being addressed. In the hematologic setting, specialized assays evaluate platelet number and function, von Willebrand factor and ADAMTS13 activity, coagulation-factor levels, and inhibitor or autoantibody presence, distinguishing inherited from acquired disorders. Research relevant to this journal addresses laboratory testing in the diagnosis of immune thrombocytopenia and general treatment approaches, acquired abnormalities of plasma von Willebrand factor parameters and ADAMTS13 autoantibodies in aggressive hematological malignancies, genetic mutations underlying inherited bleeding disorders, and the diagnostic evaluation of acquired hemophilia. Related work examines serologic and biochemical markers, confirmatory testing strategies, and the use of laboratory data in disease classification across clinical fields. The journal publishes peer-reviewed clinical and laboratory research on diagnostic testing, coagulation, and hematological disease, with emphasis on assays that inform classification, prognosis, and management.
