Overview

Cancer is a class of diseases defined by uncontrolled cell proliferation, evasion of growth suppression and apoptosis, sustained angiogenesis, and the capacity for tissue invasion and metastasis. It arises through the stepwise accumulation of genetic and epigenetic alterations affecting oncogenes, tumor-suppressor genes, and DNA-repair pathways. Cancers are classified by tissue of origin and by molecular characteristics that increasingly guide prognosis and targeted therapy, and their study spans epidemiology, pathology, molecular biology, and clinical management. Hematology and oncology are closely linked, since blood disorders and hematologic malignancies intersect with solid-tumor biology and supportive care. Research relevant to this journal spans diverse malignancies and mechanisms, including characterization of geriatric oncology populations, risk factors for breast cancer, non-invasive biochemical screening for prostate cancer, the perioperative window as a critical interval for residual cancer-cell progression, pharmacologic effects on cancer-cell behavior, behavior of solid human tumor cells in experimental systems, thyroid-disease histopathology and thyroid-cancer incidence, and cervical and breast cancer outcomes. Related work addresses tumor-formation genetics and complementary approaches to cancer prevention. The journal publishes peer-reviewed clinical, epidemiological, pathological, and molecular research across oncology and hematology, addressing tumor biology, risk, diagnosis, and management in varied populations.
