Overview
Benign tumors are abnormal growths of cells that remain localized and do not invade surrounding tissues or spread to distant sites, distinguishing them from malignant cancers. Research published in Hematology and Oncology Research addresses diverse aspects of benign tumor biology, diagnosis, and clinical management across multiple organ systems. Published studies examine meningiomas, including their pathogenesis, molecular characteristics, and optimal imaging approaches for treatment planning with radiosurgery, as well as neuropsychiatric manifestations associated with frontal lobe tumors. The journal has featured investigations of mammary tumors in veterinary models, exploring biomarkers of tumor aggressiveness and the presence of neoplastic cells in bone marrow. Additional research covers rare benign entities such as ovarian steroid cell tumors, lipomatous neoplasms, melanocytomas, and epidermoid cysts, often presenting diagnostic challenges due to their uncommon nature. Studies also investigate the molecular and genetic underpinnings of specific tumor types, including uterine leiomyomas and their malignant counterparts, and trace element composition in bone tumors like chondrosarcoma. This body of work underscores the clinical importance of accurate characterization and differential diagnosis of benign tumors to guide appropriate therapeutic decisions and avoid unnecessary interventions.
