Overview

Safety and hygiene in the food chain refers to a set of measures, both inside and outside the home, that are designed to ensure that food is safe for consumption by humans. In particular, it focuses on preventing, reducing, and controlling food-borne illness and the spread of disease. This includes the application of good hygiene practices, the proper use and storage of food, the use of sanitary equipment and the implementation of food safety regulations. The importance of safety and hygiene in the food chain is highlighted by the fact that it can have serious implications for public health. By ensuring that food is safe, we reduce the risk of food-related illnesses and ensure that people can enjoy safe and nutritious food. This is why safety and hygiene in the food chain is a central part of food safety regulations.
