Overview
Calorimetry is the measurement of heat changes associated with chemical reactions, physical transformations, or thermal processes in materials. Research published in this journal applies calorimetric techniques primarily to characterize the thermal stability and physicochemical properties of pharmaceutical compounds, nutritional supplements, and food-related materials. Studies have employed differential scanning calorimetry and related thermal analysis methods to evaluate substances including vitamins such as folic acid, pyridoxine hydrochloride, and cholecalciferol, as well as pharmaceutical agents like silver sulfadiazine and various inorganic compounds. Several investigations have examined how specific treatments affect the thermal decomposition temperatures, melting points, and enthalpy changes of these materials. Additional work has explored thermal stability in modified liposomes designed for photoactivity applications and assessed physical activity patterns in food service workers. This research contributes to Food Science and Hygiene by providing quantitative thermal data essential for understanding ingredient stability during processing and storage, formulating safe pharmaceutical products, and ensuring the quality of nutritional supplements. Calorimetric measurements help establish optimal handling conditions and predict shelf life, supporting both food safety protocols and the development of stable therapeutic formulations.
