Overview

Child healthcare is the area of medicine concerned with the health and wellbeing of children from infancy through adolescence. Within Family Medicine, it encompasses preventive care such as immunisation and growth and developmental monitoring, the treatment of acute and chronic illnesses, nutritional support, and guidance for families. Effective child healthcare aims to ensure healthy development and to detect and address health problems early, and it is often delivered as part of broader maternal and child health services. Within the journal's family-medicine scope, research has examined how child healthcare is organised and delivered, including the integration of traditional maternal and child healthcare with national health systems in Guinea and the barriers and facilitators to implementing maternal and child healthcare by community health workers in Rwanda.
