Overview

Stem cell research is the scientific investigation of undifferentiated cells that possess the capacity for self-renewal and differentiation into specialized cell types, aiming to understand how their fate is controlled and how their regenerative potential can be harnessed. It encompasses embryonic, induced pluripotent, and adult stem cells, and addresses the molecular regulation of pluripotency, differentiation pathways, scaffold-supported culture, and translation toward therapy, alongside the ethical frameworks governing the field. The peer-reviewed research collected here reflects these themes through studies of emerging regenerative-medicine paradigms, biocompatible scaffolds for induced pluripotent stem cell transplantation and modeling post-stroke recovery in three-dimensional neural culture, and human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells as a source of odontoblasts under good-manufacturing-practice conditions. Molecular and modeling contributions examine microRNA regulation of the pluripotency factor OCT4, estrogen receptor expression in hypothalamic stem cells, circadian oscillators in cancer stem cells, and the use of induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes in compound screening and cardiotoxicity testing. The ethics of modern stem cell research and therapy situates the work within critical and interdisciplinary perspectives. Methodologically, the literature draws on cell culture, scaffold engineering, molecular biology, in vitro disease modeling, and bioethical analysis, illustrating how stem cell research connects developmental and molecular biology with biomaterials and translational medicine to advance understanding of differentiation, regeneration, and therapeutic application.
