Overview

Energy-efficient buildings are designed to reduce energy consumption and improve energy performance. These buildings are designed and constructed to reduce the energy use associated with heating, cooling, lighting and other energy-related services. These buildings also minimize greenhouse gas emissions and reduce air pollution, air temperatures in cities, and other climate impacts. The various design approaches and energy efficient technologies used in energy-efficient buildings include energy efficient materials and construction methods, high levels of insulation, energy-efficient lighting and appliances, passive solar design, and renewable energy systems. The use of energy-efficient buildings can provide significant economic, environmental, and public health benefits, making them an important part of a sustainable future.
