Overview

Energy and power are foundational physical quantities: energy is the capacity to do work, measured in joules, while power is the rate at which energy is transferred or work is done, measured in watts. Energy exists in interconvertible forms, including kinetic, potential, thermal, chemical, electrical, and radiant, and is conserved in closed systems even as it changes form; power characterizes how quickly these conversions occur, a distinction central to the design and rating of engines, generators, and electrical systems. In applied energy science, the concepts underpin the analysis of generation, conversion efficiency, transmission, storage, and end-use demand. Research relevant to this topic includes mathematical analysis of alternative power systems for a residential home, the potential of energy efficiency and conservation measures in residential buildings, interfacing solar photovoltaic panels through DC-DC boost converters, and methods to generate electric power and hydrogen. Related work examines wind turbine systems, gas turbine operation, and photovoltaic-thermal collectors. The journal publishes peer-reviewed research on energy generation, conversion, and conservation across renewable and conventional sources, addressing the efficiency, system design, and sustainable management of energy and power, which remain central to technological development and the transition toward lower-carbon supply.
