Overview

Infectious Diseases antimicrobials and drug resistance refer to the ability of microorganisms to become resistant to antimicrobial treatments such as antibiotics, antivirals, antifungal and antiparasitic medications. Antimicrobial resistance is a growing global health concern, as the development of drug resistance has the potential to render increasingly powerful antimicrobials useless in treating various infectious Diseases. As a result, drug resistant infections are on the rise and can cause serious illness, disability and death. To try and combat the development of antimicrobial resistance, strategies such as infection prevention and control, appropriate antimicrobial usage and surveillance of drug resistance are being implemented.
