Biomaterials and Dentistry Technology

Dentistry has witnessed a significant transformation since the use of biomaterials started in the development of oral implants with the help of advanced technology. Biomaterials have allowed for the possibility of tooth replacements to function and feel like natural teeth. This development has led to an increase in the success rate of oral implants, making them the preferred option for tooth replacement. Biomaterials are synthetic materials that mimic the mechanical and biological properties of natural teeth. They are used to substitute missing teeth and restore the function of the oral cavity. Typically made from materials such as titanium or ceramics, oral implants are placed surgically into the jawbone to replace the missing tooth root. They provide a strong foundation for fixed or removable replacement teeth, and the artificial tooth looks and feels like natural teeth. Besides improving the appearance and functionality of the dentition, biomaterials also promote tissue integration and regeneration. This integration is facilitated through the development of nanotechnology and 3D printing, which have revolutionized the production of oral implants. These technological advances allow for the creation of custom-made implants that perfectly blend in with the shape and color of the existing dentition, making oral implants a more appealing option to patients. In conclusion, the development of biomaterials in dentistry technology has made oral implants a significant contributor to the success of tooth replacements.
