Overview
Child abuse is a form of maltreatment perpetrated against children and young people. It can take the form of physical, emotional, verbal, sexual, or neglectful abuse. Child abuse can cause significant physical and psychological harm to the developing child and can have long-term negative effects on the individual’s social, educational, and economic prospects. It is a globally recognized human rights violation, and governments around the world have adopted legislation to protect children from abuse. In addition, many organizations and individuals are working to ensure that children are safe from abuse and to promote the well-being of children and families. Prevention, early identification, and intervention of child abuse are essential for protecting children and promoting their healthy development.
