Overview

Neoplasms, also known as tumors, are an abnormal growth or mass of cells that can occur in any tissue of the body. Neoplasms may be benign, pre-malignant, or malignant, and have different genetic characteristics. In some cases, the genetics of neoplasms are responsible for the development and progression of the disease. Understanding neoplasm genetics is important for diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of diseases such as cancer. Genes involved in neoplasms are responsible for the cell cycle, DNA damage repair, and tumor suppressor functions.
