Overview
Metastatic tumors of the jaws are a type of cancer that has spread from other parts of the body to the jawbone. These tumors are typically associated with metastasis from cancers of the breast, prostate, lungs and kidneys. Metastatic tumors of the jaws can cause pain, swelling, altered sensation, difficulty opening the mouth and tooth loss. Treatment usually involves surgery, chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy, depending on the size and stage of the tumor. Early diagnosis and treatment are important for reducing the effects and improving the prognosis of metastatic tumors of the jaws.
