Overview
Cancer biomarkers are measurable molecular indicators, found in tumor tissue, blood, urine, or other body fluids, whose presence, concentration, or alteration signals the existence, behavior, or treatment response of a malignancy. They encompass proteins, enzymes, hormones, metabolites, and nucleic acids such as circulating microRNAs and DNA, and serve diagnostic, prognostic, predictive, and monitoring roles, supporting earlier detection, risk stratification, therapy selection, and surveillance for recurrence. Robust biomarkers require analytical validation and clinical qualification linking the marker to a defined outcome, and increasingly derive from immunoassays, immunohistochemistry, and high-throughput genomic and proteomic platforms. Research relevant to this area includes platform-based modeling for cancer biomarker development in drug discovery, epigenetic and long non-coding RNA biomarkers in head-and-neck cancer, dynamic plasma microRNA expression correlated with melanoma progression and PD-L1 status, immunogenomic approaches to immunomonitoring, oncofetal antigens, and trace-element profiles in thyroid nodules. The journal publishes peer-reviewed work in Cancer Genetics And Biomarkers spanning molecular, proteomic, and immunological marker discovery and validation, connecting laboratory characterization of tumor-associated molecules to clinical applications in diagnosis, prognosis, and the personalization of cancer therapy across diverse tumor types and biological platforms.
