Overview
Pharmacy is the health science and professional practice concerned with the preparation, dispensing, quality assurance, and rational use of medicines, together with the direct patient-care services that pharmacists provide to optimise drug therapy. It bridges the pharmaceutical sciences and clinical care, encompassing community and hospital practice, pharmaceutical care, medication safety, and pharmacovigilance. The work indexed here reflects the discipline as it is practised in real systems rather than in the abstract. Several studies evaluate prescribing and dispensing behaviour using standardised World Health Organization core indicators across hospital and community settings, while others examine auditable pharmaceutical transaction services, self-medication and drug-storage practices in the community, and the appropriate detection and codification of adverse drug events. The professional dimension is addressed through assessments of job satisfaction and occupational stress among community pharmacists and their effect on the delivery of pharmaceutical care. Emerging modes of practice also appear, including pharmacists' readiness for e-health tools and the expansion of tele-pharmacy during periods of constrained access. Collectively these themes situate pharmacy within medication management, patient safety, workforce well-being, and the digital transformation of dispensing and counselling services in diverse practice environments.
