Overview
Mental health schizophrenia and other psychoses are a group of psychiatric disorders that involve distorted perception and thinking, impaired behavior and emotion, and disrupted communication. They can cause significant distress and impairments in functioning, such as difficulty at school, work, and in social relationships. Early diagnosis and treatment are important for the best possible outcome and quality of life. Treatment usually involves a combination of psychotherapy and medications, tailored to an individual’s needs and goals. Mental health schizophrenia and other psychoses can have a devastating impact on individuals, families and loved ones – but with early detection and the right treatment, people can live full and meaningful lives.
