Overview

Crops are cultivated plants grown by humans for food, feed, fiber, fuel, and other products, forming the foundation of agriculture and global food supply. They include cereals, legumes, root and tuber crops, fruits, vegetables, and industrial plants, each with particular requirements for soil, water, nutrients, and climate. Agronomy Research focuses on improving crop production and sustainability by studying plant genetics and breeding, nutrient and fertilizer management, soil health, pest and weed control, and the effects of environmental challenges such as climate change and land degradation. The goal is to develop and manage crops that are more resilient, productive, and efficient while protecting the resources on which farming depends. Research in this journal addresses many of these themes, including strategies to improve fertilizer response and grain production, the climate change, land degradation, and food security nexus, planting strategies in cassava and plantain intercropping, residue retention for sustainability in semi-arid systems, detection of genetically modified crops and their environmental impact, precision approaches in plant genetics and breeding, and the use of plant extracts as biopesticides on crops. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to crop production, agronomy, soil and nutrient management, and sustainable agriculture.
