Overview

The Stem Cell Theory of Ageing proposes that aging results from the gradual decline in the regenerative capacity of stem cells, which are responsible for tissue maintenance and repair throughout the body. As stem cells lose their ability to divide and differentiate effectively over time, tissues cannot adequately replace damaged or dying cells, leading to the functional deterioration characteristic of aging. Research published in Aging Research And Healthcare has examined aging through related immunological and systemic perspectives. Studies have explored how immune responses to environmental exposures follow trajectories that parallel biological aging processes, and how frailty—a clinical manifestation of reduced physiological reserve—relates to immune system function. The journal has also addressed broader conceptual frameworks for understanding aging, including whether demographic aging represents primarily a biological challenge or a social construct requiring multifaceted responses. Additionally, research has examined age-related conditions such as osteoarthritis and the psychosocial dimensions of aging, including depression and social isolation in later life. These investigations collectively contribute to understanding how cellular and systemic changes, including those potentially involving stem cell dysfunction, manifest across biological, clinical, and social domains of the aging process.
