Overview
The elderly are older adults, typically considered those in later life, whose health and wellbeing are the focus of aging research and geriatric healthcare. As people age, they often experience physiological changes and an increased likelihood of chronic conditions, functional limitations, and complex care needs, alongside social factors such as isolation, caregiving arrangements, and access to services. Aging Research And Healthcare aim to understand these changes and to develop evidence-based interventions that promote health, independence, and quality of life among older populations, spanning preventive care, chronic-disease management, rehabilitation, and end-of-life care. Research published by the journal addresses many dimensions of elderly health and care, particularly access and outcomes across different settings. Work includes a study of facilitators and barriers to healthcare access among the elderly in Tanzania, analysis of government-sponsored health insurance coverage and out-of-pocket spending among the elderly in India, and examination of vitamin D supplementation strategies in older adults. Additional research has addressed antibiotic resistance in the elderly, end-of-life care needs in long-term care settings, social capital and health outcomes, and the use of assistive mobility technologies. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to the elderly and the broad field of Aging Research And Healthcare.
