Overview
Plant growth and development encompasses the processes by which plants increase in size, differentiate tissues and organs, and progress through their life cycles from germination to reproduction. Research published in Advances in Plant Biology addresses multiple dimensions of this topic, including how plants respond to environmental stresses that affect growth trajectories. Studies have examined mechanisms by which plants tolerate heavy metal toxicity through antioxidant systems and regulated uptake, as well as how root system architecture adapts to both biotic and abiotic stresses. The journal has published work on adventitious rooting processes involving antioxidative enzymes and regulatory microRNAs, and investigations into how nutrient limitations such as low nitrogen availability influence growth parameters in crop species. Additional research has explored plant responses to drought and salt stress at proteomic and physiological levels, and examined phytoremediation capabilities where plants remove metals from contaminated environments. Computational approaches to modeling anatomical development and detecting plant diseases that impair growth have also been featured. Understanding these growth and developmental processes matters for improving crop resilience, optimizing agricultural productivity under challenging conditions, and developing plants capable of environmental remediation.
