Overview

Open Source Drug Discovery (OSDD) is a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach to speeding up the drug discovery process. It aims to harness the power of the internet to link researchers, academics, industry professionals, and policymakers from all over the world to promote open sharing of knowledge and resources in the interest of advancing drug discovery and development. OSDD was initiated by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), India in 2008, which focuses on innovative research in basic and applied sciences. The primary goal of OSDD is to pit information from diverse disciplines and technologies across the globe to generate, discuss and develop novel anti-tuberculosis drugs - more effective, affordable and accessible drugs than the conventional ones. Its collaborative model is a one-of-a-kind concept that emphasizes open-access principles in the advancement of drug discovery and drug design. This novel concept of OSDD enables researchers across the world to share resources and data and collaborate on drug discovery projects that would otherwise be challenging due to the costs of research and development. This approach aims to reduce the time and costs associated with drug discovery and development by avoiding duplicated efforts, facilitating knowledge transfer, and promoting innovative thinking and drug design. In conclusion, Open Source Drug Discovery is an innovative approach to advancing pharmaceutical science and technology. It has the potential to revolutionize the drug discovery process by enabling researchers from diverse backgrounds to collaborate and share knowledge and resources. This approach has the potential to accelerate drug discovery and development, resulting in better health outcomes for people around the world.
