Overview

Community pharmacy is the branch of pharmacy practice that provides medicines and pharmaceutical care directly to the public, typically through retail or neighborhood pharmacies. Community pharmacists dispense prescription and over-the-counter medications, counsel patients on the safe and effective use of drugs, manage interactions and adverse effects, and offer professional advice on minor ailments and general health. As one of the most accessible points of contact with the healthcare system, community pharmacies play an important role in primary care, supporting medication adherence, public health initiatives such as immunization and health screening, and the appropriate use of medicines. The role of community pharmacists has expanded over time to include a broader range of clinical and advisory services, increasingly supported by digital and electronic health tools. Research published in this journal's network has examined aspects of community pharmacy practice, including job satisfaction and work-related stress among community pharmacists and their impact on pharmaceutical care, pharmacists' knowledge and computer skills in relation to e-health, and prescribing and dispensing practices in community pharmacies assessed using established prescribing indicators. The topic falls within the broad scope of Advanced Pharmaceutical Science And Technology. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical care within that scope.
