Overview
Chromatography is an analytical technique used to separate the components of a mixture based on their differing interactions with a stationary phase and a mobile phase. As substances move through or over the stationary phase, they partition, adsorb, or are filtered by molecular size to different degrees, causing them to travel at different rates and separate into distinct bands or peaks. The method is fundamental to pharmaceutical science and technology, where it is used extensively in drug research and development, quality control, bioanalysis, and the detection of impurities and adulterants. Research in Advanced Pharmaceutical Science And Technology and related OpenAccessPub journals demonstrates a broad range of chromatographic applications, including a liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry method for determining febuxostat in human plasma to support a bioequivalence study, a high-performance liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry method for measuring danshensu in plasma, the identification and quantification of an adulterant in a dietary supplement, thin-layer chromatography separation of benzoic esters in pharmaceutical products, and reviews of liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry applications in food safety. Together these studies span quantitative bioanalysis, purity testing, and compound identification. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to chromatography and its central role in pharmaceutical analysis.
