Overview

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that interfere with functioning or development. Symptoms typically emerge in childhood and frequently continue into adolescence and adulthood, affecting academic performance, work, and interpersonal relationships, and management commonly combines behavioral approaches with medication. ADHD research spans diagnosis, the lifespan course of the disorder, and interventions across educational, cognitive, and interpersonal domains. Work published by the journal addresses the use of assistive technologies to support students with ADHD, the building of resilience in children and youth through protective factors in academic, interpersonal, and cognitive domains, and the effectiveness of mindfulness-based routines in affected children. Studies also examine gender disparities, including the impacts of late diagnosis in females and the role of impulsivity and gender in real-world outcomes such as financial risk-taking. Because ADHD frequently co-occurs with other conditions, related research touches on sleep disorders such as narcolepsy in the pediatric population and on neuroimaging and psychological assessment in children with behavioral difficulties, while broader work on mental-health promotion and nutrition reflects contextual factors of interest. Collectively these aspects emphasize early identification, individualized support, attention to under-recognized populations, and the everyday functional consequences of the disorder.
